Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Veterinary Hospital Assistant to join our Dispensary Team.

This position requires practical knowledge of a veterinary referral centre and the rules and regulations regarding the movement and care of patients, through the pet crematorium and cadaver process, as well as updating records for patients and liaising with the finance team to ensure payments are made correctly. The role also includes responsibility of goods in and out, and the overseeing of parcel collection and movement of goods, around the hospital.

Please note this is a full-time position – daily hours will vary; however, we expect the hours to fall between 7.00am and 15:00pm Monday to Friday.

Main Purpose and Goals:

  • To be efficient, pleasant, courteous, polite, and helpful to all associates and clients under all conditions, always.
  • Taking direction from the Dispensary manager to provide a full range of practical and administrative activities to facilitate the effective operation of the department and the centre, in an accurate and consistent manner.
  • Providing day to day support to the centre as needed, in addition to the routine tasks to replenish equipment around the hospital, that supports the efficient and effective operation of the centre, and patient care.
  • Keep the goods in area tidy and clear of clutter, well organised and within health and safety guidelines at DWR. Communicate well with all teams to distribute parcels, where necessary.
  • To provide an efficient and seamless transactional service with the pet crematorium to ensure any deceased pets are treated with respect and dignity, in accordance with their owners wishes.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Receiving and distribution to relevant departments, of all parcels including the collation of all delivery notes, signed, and dated, together with ensuring all documentation is scanned into the system.
  • To oversee any parcels that departments arrange to be collected by external couriers, and ensure the correct transfer of all relevant paperwork
  • To ensure that clinical waste stock is put away and orders are adjusted as needed, in accordance with the requests of the senior nurses.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with the finance and other admin teams.
  • Take ownership of the pet mortuary and liaise with external organisation’s including and actioning, owner’s memorial wishes for their deceased pets.
  • To be comfortable with the management and handling of patient cadavers.
  • To support and lead the movement of patient cadavers with care and respect.
  • To re-stock PPE points around the practice from the main store off site and re-order through dispensary as needed.
  • General Housekeeping around the site
