Job Title: Bioveterinary Scientist

Reports to: Laboratory Manager

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and experienced scientist to join our veterinary diagnostic laboratory team working in our busy, purpose-built specialist veterinary centre.

The position will be based primarily in our blood sciences department which covers haematology, biochemistry, and endocrinology. The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Process patient blood samples & contribute to an efficient workflow
  • Blood film examinations
  • Perform urinalysis, fluid preparations and cell count
  • Conduct QC and maintenance of analysers
  • Undertake stock control
  • Assist in sample reception and answer telephone enquiries
  • Provide training of colleagues/ students when required

There will also be an opportunity to assist in the microbiology department, however, full training will be provided.

The role will be supported by the Laboratory Manager and Senior staff. Colleagues are encouraged to participate in CPD and undertake further training.

This is a full-time position, 40-hour week, working 8 hour shifts between the hours of 06:30 and 18:00 Monday to Friday. The post holder would be required to partake in the 1 in 4 Saturday rota and Bank Holiday rota. The Laboratory is not open on Sundays or Christmas day.

Required Skills:

The ideal candidate will have experience in working within a blood sciences laboratory, with an interest in learning more about veterinary diagnostics. They will hold a degree in a relevant science subject, ideally Biomedical Science, Bioveterinary Science, or similar. Experience with any of our analysers would be advantageous: Advia 2120, Beckman Coulter AU480 and Siemens Immulite 2000. Computer literacy is essential with the ability to quickly pick up use of our laboratory information management system and practice management system.
