Nursing care is an essential part of the treatment patients receive at our hospital and we are very proud of the high standards of the nursing care we provide. Each patient receives individual nursing care dependent on their needs, which helps optimise their recovery.

Our nursing team is made up of our Registered Veterinary Nurses, Nursing Assistants and our Student Veterinary Nurses. All of our Registered Veterinary Nurses are very experienced in general practice before joining us and developing more specialist nursing skills. Many have passed further advanced qualifications in veterinary nursing. Some of our nurses have further specialised within specific areas such as medicine, neurology and theatre nursing where they work solely, supporting that area of the hospital with their expertise.

Any nurses that join us, following a 3-month, in-depth induction regardless of their prior experience. Or for those who are less that 12 months qualified, join our 12-month Post Registration Programme. This ensures that all our nurses are working to a certain level, in order to provide the best quality of care for our patients.

The roles of the veterinary nurses within the hospital are diverse but include

  • Day-to-day 24-hour nursing care of patients

  • Monitoring blood transfusions
  • Providing physiotherapy
  • Performing some diagnostic procedures
  • Maintaining and monitoring anaesthesia

  • Admission and discharge of patients, to include client care and education

The nursing team are supported by a dedicated team of nursing assistants who help provide the best nursing care and keep the hospital immaculate. The nursing assistants walk and groom patients, prepare food, feed patients and assist the nurses with procedures.
